Our journey towards sustainability – with awareness, transparency, and dedication

Change is most effective when we work together – that’s why the EMV – Hub for Electromagnetic Compatibility relies on partnership, dialogue, and perspectives. From the trade fair concept to the supporting program and infrastructure, we continuously assess, question, and improve – turning responsibility into concrete action. Sustainable change can only happen when we carry it together. Be part of this movement – through exchange, dialogue, and action.

Values that guide us – goals that drive us

For us, responsibility starts in the details. Whether it's a trade fair, conference, or dialogue format – we develop the platform for electromagnetic compatibility with a clear focus on the future. What matters to us is not just showcasing sustainable solutions but actively helping to shape them.

It is an integral part of our corporate strategy. As part of Mesago and the Messe Frankfurt Group, we demonstrate our commitment – ecological, social, and economic. Our Sustainability Strategy defines clear goals, which we regularly review and refine. Together, we’re creating a future for events that blends awareness and progress.

Our sustainability strategy is built on two pillars

Resources & waste: We focus on the responsible use of materials, consistently reduce waste, and promote environmental awareness among all stakeholders.

Mobility: We encourage to choose climate-friendly travel options, expand our CO₂ offsetting offerings, and follow the principle: avoid, reduce, offset.
Already in 2025, more than 30% of respondents used the train or public transport to travel to Stuttgart.

To improve our CO₂ footprint, we follow a holistic mobility concept: discounted train travel through the DB event ticket and regular surveys on mobility behavior form the basis for environmentally friendly travel to the EMV.

Through the EMV app, QR codes, and digital signage, we provide quick, paperless access to information. By increasing the use of digital solutions and designing analog signs and posters for multi-year use, we intentionally reduce the consumption of paper, ink, and energy.

Our small gifts come from companies that prioritize eco-friendly production.

At our events, we collect empty deposit bottles and donate with the proceeds to charitable organizations.

Taking an active role in sustainability – our recommendations for you

Sustainability works when everyone gets involved. Even small decisions make a difference. That’s why we’re offering you practical recommendations to actively save resources and reduce CO₂ – before, during, and after the trade fair.

For exhibitors

There are many ways to act more sustainably in the lead-up to the trade fair:

  • Choose eco-friendly travel options: Use the DB event ticket, public transport, or carpool with others to reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Sustainable accommodation: Opt for certified hotels with recognized sustainability labels such as GreenSign, Green Key, or Green Globe.
  • Resource-efficient booth construction: Design your booth using modular systems. Avoid digital prints and avoid adding the event year to materials so they can be reused.
  • Reduce printed materials: Minimize printed collateral where possible or use certified paper (e.g., FSC or Blue Angel).
  • Sustainable giveaways: Choose promotional items that are durable, useful, and offer ecological or social value.
  • Responsible catering: Favor regional, seasonal, and vegan or vegetarian options. Use reusable dishware to cut down on waste.
  • Efficient trade fair planning: According to a study by AUMA, attending a trade fair can replace up to five business trips. Take advantage of this potential by preparing thoroughly and inviting both existing and potential customers in advance.

Even small decisions made during the event can have a big impact:

  • Travel sustainably: Use public transportation or organize carpools for your team’s travel to and from the venue.
  • Fair staff scheduling: Ensure reasonable working hours for your booth staff.
  • Raise sustainability awareness: Inform your team about sustainable practices and communicate your company’s values clearly.
  • Support local service providers: Choose regional partners and prioritize short delivery routes.
  • Use digital tickets: Opt for electronic tickets to reduce paper usage. If you do receive a printed badge, reuse lanyards whenever possible.

A conscious and sustainable approach to leftover materials is especially important once the event is over:

  • Sort materials properly: Separate materials by type to support effective recycling.
  • Reuse and recycle: Consider which items can be reused or passed on to others.
  • Consider storage: Carefully store booth elements such as modular parts or graphics for future use.
  • Evaluate your environmental impact: Review the ecological footprint of your trade fair participation and identify opportunities to improve sustainability going forward.

Sustainability at the trade fair venues

The EMV takes place at two responsibly managed trade fair locations – in Stuttgart and Cologne. Both venues are strongly committed to sustainable solutions, such as energy-efficient building technology.
