Description

In 2006, the inventors of real-time FFT analysis for EMC applications presented a novel technology at the EMC Conference in Singapore, which has revolutionized the field of EMC measurement ever since. Measuring times for complex tasks were reduced from hours to only a few seconds. The TDEMI 1G was the first instrument to reduce a 30 MHz - 1 GHz Quasi-Peak measurement from 9 hours to 64 seconds. Advantages for customers and users were demonstrated in the test laboratory at the inauguration of the new EMC center of the VDE test institute in Offenbach in 2008.

After the TDEMI 1G had garnered great success, its basic block diagrams and FFT measurement methodology from the user manual were approved and integrated as part of the CISPR 16-3, CISPR 16-2-1, CISPR 16-2-2 and CISPR 16-2-3 standards, the time has come to release a new redesigned TDEMI G series, based on the very latest ADC and FPGA technologies.

The new TDEMI G is a full-compliance receiver capable of performing measurements in the frequency ranges 30 MHz, 1 GHz, 3 GHz, 6 GHz, 9 GHz, 18 GHz, 26 GHz, 40 GHz and 44 GHz. The core models of the instrument feature both traditional and FFT-based measurement modes by default. HF performance and measurement dynamics were greatly improved upon since the original TDEMI G series through replacement of old components with high-resolution ADCs and FPGAs. This allows devices of the new TDEMI G series to reach linear dynamic ranges of approx. 90 dB in the real-time band.The use of powerful FPGAs enables high scan speeds for all TDEMI G-Series instruments in the basic configurations, allowing for short measurement durations of 1.5 seconds for conducted EMC measurements and about 8 seconds for quasi-peak measurements from 30 MHz - 1 GHz. A spectrum analyzer equipped with traditional and FFT-based measurement modes is also available. The requirements for radio measurements supporting bandwidths up to 60 MHz, e.g. for the qualification of broadband radio signals, are also fulfilled with the core model of the instrument.

The new TDEMI G comes with a high-resolution capacitive touchscreen and connectors on the front, which is ideally suited for both laboratory and outdoor use. The high-resolution display with projected capacitive multi-touch ensures convenient and intuitive operation.

Previously supported features such as vast real-time bandwidth, state of the art HF performance along with the novel Hyper Overlapping technology are able to be extended into the THz range with external mixers by the new TDEMI G series.

Combining all the latest leading-edge ADC technology with highest-performance FPGAs and modern MMICs up to 44 GHz, the recently released TDEMI Ultimate series is the latest FFT-based measurement system and the top-of-the line model of the GAUSS INSTRUMENTS product line card. It comes with the standard quasi-peak real-time bandwidth of 345 MHz and with the add-on options of 685 MHz, or even 1000 MHz quasi-peak real-time bandwidth for full compliance EMC testing. Furthermore the real-time scanning features enables measurements across several GHz with peak detector and average simultaneously. These real-time measurements which –of course - meet all the requirements of the latest CISPR 16-1-1 edition even at 0 dB attenuator and several GHz bandwidth, enable high-speed, precise, and fully standard-compliant EMC measurements in real-time. Also telecommunication measurements according to the ETSI standards, such as occupied bandwidth, channel and adjacent channel power as well as measurement of pulse width and pulse height etc., can be performed easily and very fast in real-time.

The TDEMI Ultimate is the first measurement system that fully utilizes all the vast advantages and power of digitization and thereby offers a wide range of leading-edge technological capabilities and added value. It also provides an improved measurement uncertainty, and even spans across several GHz can be measured in real-time – at the same time providing a very good sensitivity and a high dynamic range. The range from 30 MHz to 1 GHz can now be measured in just one single segment with the fully CISPR 16-1-1 compliant quasi peak detector (option 1000M-UG) in real-time. Together with the software automation suite EMI64k of GAUSS INSTRUMENTS all kind of test procedures can be significantly simplified and speed up - resulting once more in tremendously reduced overall test times, increased measurement accuracy, and improved overall test quality all at the same time.

The TDEMI measurement systems can also be combined with all other third party off-the-shelf automation software solutions resulting in a significantly reduction of the overall test times and improvement of the measurement quality in comparison to other devices using traditional test methods from the past.

The TDEMI Ultimate measurement systems are available in the several frequency ranges starting from 9 kHz to 6 GHz, 18 GHz, 26 GHz, 40 GHz, and 44 GHz. The low end frequency range can optionally be extended down to even DC.

The novel product line TDEMI eXtreme (TDEMI X) is the latest and most advanced level of full digital measurement equipment for emission testing on the fast lane. It is based on the unrivaled and patented TDEMI® real-time technology of GAUSS INSTRUMENTS. It is easy and efficient in upgrading its frequency range by a various number of extensions which can be integrated into the instrument step by step. The frequency ranges are 1GHz, 3GHz, 6GHz, 18GHz, 26.5GHz or 40GHz respectively. A large variety of configuration possibilities makes the TDEMI X to the customized solution perfect fitting into your lab and to your application according to civil standards (e. g. CISPR, EN, FCC Part 15, ANSI C63.2, ANSI C63.4), military standards (e. g. MIL-461G, but also its previous versions and revisions) as well as avionic standards (e. g. DO-160). The frequency range of the TDEMI X instruments starts at 9 kHz in its standard configuration and can be extended down to 10 Hz by the option MIL/DO-UG or even down to DC by the available option OSC-UG as well. Like all other TDEMI measurement systems, the TDEMI X measurement systems can be remotely controlled and fully automated via Ethernet (TCP/IP) very easily.

Using the leading-edge analog-to-digital converters with the best ratio of signal-to-noise power density available on the market, most modern high-speed FPGAs with a calculation power of about 250 state-of-the-art PCs and in-house designed high performance microwave circuits, highest measurement accuracy and highest measurement speed is achieved over the entire frequency range starting from 10 Hz up to 40 GHz. The TDEMI X measurement system offers in its standard configuration already a fully integrated spectrum analyzer and also a real-time spectrum analyzer. An additional option provides a two-channel oscilloscope, extending the frequency range even down to DC. The product line of TDEMI X stands for highest performance and due to its various operation modes it can be used in a vast range of applications, e.g. also for measurements and testing according to telecommunication standards as ETSI - all this can be done fully gapless in real-time with an absolutely unique instantaneous bandwidth of 645 MHz and an unrivaled measurement speed and dynamic range of about 100 dB (@0dB attenuation and preselection off) or even up to more than 170 dB including the automatically stepped attenuator.
